ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCTS
AAI provides a unique suite of airborne and satellite imagery-assisted environmental reconnaissance and assessment products. The products primarily support efforts addressing issues of environmental protection. For many situations these products provide the only practical means for: 1) locating, quantifying, and monitoring non-point pollution sources; 2) assessing the status of submerged ecosystems; 3) characterizing shallow-water bottom morphology and the sediment budget; 4) single-component (e.g., species-level) and mixed-component (e.g., fire fuels classes, mixed coastal and wetland grasses, etc.) land cover characterization, assessment, and monitoring; and 5) estimating gaseous emission rates from wetlands. The availability of archived image data enables the establishment of meaningful and defensible baseline conditions, trend analyses, restoration targets, and the monitoring of progress against those targets. The products are based on sound science, have validated accuracies, and are published in peer-reviewed journals. The availability and reduced cost of satellite spectral imagery enables broad area reconnaissance, assessment, and monitoring to be performed on a persistent basis at reasonable cost. Products can be distributed on-line to relevant individuals (e.g., stakeholders or enforcement personnel) with rapid turnaround.
